Changes in Our Family Law Practice
We have made a real, real, big change in the way we practice law in the areas of litigation, family law and criminal law. Our office will no longer be accepting clients for civil litigation matters and/or criminal matters, especially if those matters cannot be resolved without starting or defending an action in Court.
Limited Family Law Practice
In the area of Family Law, our office is no longer accepting clients whom there cases are in or heading for Court; however, we will continue to assist our clients whose matters can be resolved through the Courts without attendances. These would include uncontested divorces, filing agreements with the court, and. Orders on consent. Our focus in Family Law, instead, will be two (2) fold.
Negotiation & Mediation
First we will try and assist clients resolve their matters prior to attending Court through negotiating agreements, mediation services and/or counseling. If the matter should after all efforts end up in court, our office can refer you to a lawyer who will handle the litigation for you and we can assist that counsel as much as necessary.
Unbundled Legal Services
Second, if you should chose to represent yourself, our office can provide assistance in preparation of Court forms from the Application/Answer/Financial Statements/Form 35.1 /Affidavits through the Case/Settlement Conference briefs, the 14C’s right up to the commencement of trial. We can provide coaching and counseling throughout the process and even assist you with the issues of law with your particular matter and drawing up an Offer to Settle. You chose how much help you want and how much you need to spend. And at any time, you can chose to get a lawyer to represent you any step of the way.
Podcasts, Webinars, Instructional Videos, Radio Shows
As an added benefit to my clients and other unrepresented people, starting January 2016, I will have instructional videos on “How to Fill Out the Family Court Forms”, starting with “How to Fill Out an Application”. Each week I will try to have additional instructional videos available on both my websites and YouTube for other forms.
In addition to the Instructional Videos, once a month, I will host a Podcast on different areas of Family law and what you can expect in Court on each attendance. In February I will be launching monthly webinars for my clients and anyone who may wish to sign up. There is also some talk about an internet radio show, as well. This would give people the opportunity to interact, ask questions and share stories. We may even have some quests on from time to time. Something to look forward to.
No One Wins by Going To Court
As I said, this is a major change in the direction of my practice. One that has seen after 30 years of advocacy, litigation, and, bitter battles, I have come to the conclusion there must be a better way for my clients and especially the children. Working things out is the first step to harmonizing a broken relationship with your children…No one wins when they go to Court except the lawyers!
I know that many of the people w2ho call me re already in Court and looking for a lawyer who will go to “bat” for them but there are many more who are out there who see how harmful and costly that process can be and are looking for the help and guidance to pick a better path. That is where I come in and where the whole family benefits!
