  • What are lawyer’s fees based upon?

    Lawyer fees are based on a number of factors, but the most important factors are the experience of the lawyer and time spent. Our final bill will be adjusted based on the amount involved, the complexity of the proceeding, the importance of the issues and the result achieved. Our Law Firm accepts Legal Aid Certificates, Credit Card, Debit Card, Cash, and Money Orders. We see our clients as friends and neighbors and we take the extra steps to give quality legal services to our clients. We are constantly rewarded by our clients regularly expressing their satisfaction with our service.

  • Does your firm do any litigation?

    Our Law Firm can assist you in the preparation of Court Documents and coaching for unrepresented litigants in the following legal actions: Corporate/Commercial, Civil litigation and most Family Law matters, etc.  We still do Prenuptial, Marriage and Cohabitation Agreements, Separation Agreements, Uncontested Divorces and over-the-counter matters for Orders on consent.  We do not attend or represent clients, in Court.  Call our office for a consultation and refer to our articles concerning Unbundled Legal Services.

    Returning to Defense work after being retained by the Crown Attorney’s office as a per diem Assistant Crown Attorney, Brian C. Wilcox is happy to speak with you personally or on the telephone to discuss your matter in detail.

    Brian C. Wilcox worked for the Crown Attorney’s office in Niagara South during 1997-98, 2003, 2006 and 2007, coupled with his extensive private practice experience and duty counsel experience.   • How do you apply for Legal Aid?

    Legal Aid Ontario Launches Toll-Free Client Hotline / Aide juridique Ontario met  la disposition de la client “le une ligne dâ” assistance sans frais

    Legal Aid Ontario’s toll-free number is one of the primary access points for clients and offers convenient, comprehensive legal aid assistance in 120 languages over the phone. Callers can connect toll-free at 1.800.668.8258, press 0 to speak to a representative about:
    * general legal aid information
    * certificate applications and assistance
    * summary legal advice for criminal and family matters
    * referrals to duty counsel, legal clinics, and social service agencies.

    Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call volumes are highest during the middle of the day – for faster service it is recommend that clients call before 11:00 a.m. or after 3:00 p.m..

    As LAO transforms the way legal aid services are delivered across the province, we continue to uphold our commitment to customer service excellence. We’re working on keeping wait times as short as possible for clients, while providing quality service to all our callers.

    Since launching in December 2008, use of LAO’s toll-free number has risen dramatically due to its popularity. Additional representatives have been added to stay on pace with demand and keep wait times to a minimum.

    Clients are primarily using the toll-free number for information and applications for criminal and family matters, but LAO provides referrals and assistance for a wide range of matters. More than 13,000 clients used the 1-800 service in February 2010 to access legal aid help.

    The Simplified Online Application Portal (SOAP), which offers a way to accelerate the applications of clearly eligible clients, helps save time. This process targets the more than 50 per cent of our clients who are clearly eligible for legal aid because of their financial and legal situation. The SOAP process reduces the application time by 62 per cent, so clients receive the legal aid help they need, faster.

    LAO 1- 800 Quick Facts:
    * Clients can access a full-range of legal aid services over the phone, including applying for certificates.
    * In February 2010, almost 13,000 people contacted LAO toll-free for legal aid assistance.
    * LAO has introduced a simplified online application process (SOAP) that reduces the time to complete an application by 62 per cent.
    * Sixty-three per cent of clients receive a same day decision on their legal aid application, allowing them to move forward with their legal matters.

     

  • Does Your Firm Accept other Legal Plans?

    Legal Aid Certificates

    Our office does not arrange legal aid directly with the client. To obtain a legal aid certificate you must contact the Legal Aid Ontario office in the municipality in which you reside. If you qualify for assistance, the Legal Aid Office will issue a certificate and that certificate must be forwarded to the lawyer of your choice. For more information contact Legal Aid Ontario.

    Our office accepts Legal Aid Certificates issued by Legal Aid Ontario on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right not to accept a Legal Aid Certificate. The rate at which Legal Aid Ontario remunerates our firm for services and disbursements is set out in the appropriate legislation and regulations which govern the Legal Aid Plan.

    Other Legal Assistance Plans

    Our office accepts a number of private Legal Plans, which we are not allowed to publicize the names of which pursuant to our agreement with these plans. Many times our clients are referred to our firm directly through the individual Plan’s directors and administrators.

  • What experience does your law firm have?

    Our office is a full service law firm. With over 30 years of legal experience, we offer our clients assistance with problems experienced in most areas of the law. Our law firm has an exceptional law library for its size, including modern computer legal research facilities.

    Our office was one of the first offices to become fully computerized in the Niagara Peninsula. Our Firm was the first office in Niagara to obtain and use the ‘Teraview’ Real Estate program in 1996 years before the rest of the profession was required to use it in 2004 to search land parcels and register deeds, mortgages, etc.

    FAMILY LAW:

    We are experienced in Divorce, Separation Agreements, Cohabitation and Marriage Contracts, Spousal and Child Support issues, Child Custody and Access issues.
